Play fast chess games for improve chess skill

Only play games no improve our chess level. Mainly fast games.
Why so many people play fast games?. It is very addictive.

Is there a routine behavior to avoid this? I mean, if you want to check your progress, you have to play. But what's the right recipe?
In fast games it's hard to use chess engine.
It's one of the reason, i think.
Some people are not interested in improving, they just want to play some games, have some fun...
I wholeheartedly agree with Neverness. My chess skills are subpar but I enjoy bullet chess. Even though I don't win most of the time, the pressure is what keeps in in the mood.
*Most* people do not have the will to improve.

Story of my life.
All depends on how you approach it. If you're just playing fast and trying to win on time, you may not improve much. But if you're really concentrating, these games can help develop your chess intuition.
Sometimes you just want some adrenaline rush, and bullet gives that. It also allows for flashy sacrifices that are not really sound, but your opponent does not have the time to think how to deflect them!
And then you can just go back with the engine and see all the stupid moves that you missed

But I'm a partisan, I almost only play bullet these days
Well then there is the mate in 1 that you missed that just hangs on your ego... until the next game :-)
Bullet games are fun, harder to cheat and provide quick satisfaction.

In long games, they too can be fun and ofc you improve but there must be a level of inherent trust between two players that niether one is cheating.

It is why I mostly play with freinds and with people who generally want to improve their chess.

Something that maybe worthwhile to do, is ask your opp if after the game, you both can stay and analyse togethor. This could increase the chance of opp of not cheating and deff increase chance of you making a freind. :)
Simply put they can be more fun than the analysis paralysis of long games. It's good to turn your brain off sometimes.

Moreover, 'improving' is good because you win more, but the ultimate reason most players play chess is just to have fun. It's different if chess ifs your career or something. But if you're not having fun, you shouldn't play, simple as that. So there is nothing wrong with bullet or blitz. That said, time is so important in both that one might well consider them to be wholly different games from chess.
