When I first started Lichess, there was a chat box on the homepage (http://en.lichess.org/) . After I stopped playing on Lichess for a period of time, I joined back, and now the chat box has been changed. Is the old one still here, and, if not, may the moderators bring it back?
Same thing happened to me. There's an IRC channel now.

The chat box was great when there weren't so many people. Now there's up to 1700 people on the site at anyone time -- having a chat on the homepage is not very useful with such large numbers.
The old chat box had quite a lot of people...

Hehe, the home page chat box. That really IS a long time ago. It was removed in 2011 or so due to the lack of any kind of meaningful conversations on there.
In fact, Thibault wrote a new chat system in December 2013 that was global across all pages and *very powerful*, but the reaction by users was overwhelmingly negative. It also increased ping quite a bit for those who enabled it. It was removed on February 2014, if I recall correctly.

.... It's only been 3 months since the beginning of 2014 ... and the chat box was there last year :P
