If you move the "f" Knight you will need to give both Knights for the Queen (good). Moving the "d" Knight, you get the Queen for just one Knight (excellent).
when you use the D knight dxe5 is not possible due to Queen's pin on the pawn and you spend only one knight to win the queen, if you use the other knight the queen will cost you two knights instead.

Ah, I see. I've often thought "hey this puzzle is wrong" and tried it in the analysis and against the engine but this time I didn't see that.
