#8 - Road to 2400: - Warrior or worrier?

AnalysisStrategyOver the boardTournamentChess Personalities
From Sunday to Sunday, I participated in the 2024 Cannes Chess Festival, which perhaps was also the strongest open of my career so far.

Honestly, my main goal was to fully enjoy the game without any constraints and to strive for victory in the matches without compromise. Of course, such a competition provides an excellent opportunity to achieve international norms, but I don't particularly like to formulate my goals so sharply because, in my experience, it usually leads to stiffness, which affects performance.
I think I almost fully achieved my goal, but unfortunately, the results were far behind. So not only did I not achieve an IM norm, but I even dropped 30 rating points. The good news is that this doesn't bother me at all anymore because the reality of the game wasn't about this, and my games were finally aggressive and combative. This could even be a good political speech on how to sell failure as success. happy.png
In the end, I finished the competition with 3.5 points out of 7 (2 wins, 2 losses, 3 draws) with losing 30 rating. However, what's much more important is that hopefully, I've finally managed to shake off unnecessary stress and I can't wait to play again. The professional lesson I learned from the competition is that I must convert winning positions to winning at a higher percentage because unfortunately, only this can compensate for losses. My play was sometimes a bit inaccurate, a bit impatient, which caused me to miss several promising positions while often not taking my opponent's intentions seriously in lost games.
And why just 7, why not 9 matches? In the 8th round, a mountainside collapsed onto the railway tracks, so they canceled all the trains for that day. Of course, this way I couldn't get there! The 9th round started in the morning, so I didn't even bother to ask for a pairing, lest I miss that too. When it rains, it pours happy.png
