On
chess.com there are 24.950 players online.
Until 2 days ago, lichess automatically disconnected players after 10 minutes of inactivity. The goal being to save CPU and bandwidth, both to the players and the server.
But it caused problems; mainly it was dropping the player challenges and preventing reception of private messages and challenges.
So I changed it so players remain connected as long as the lichess tab is open, and that explains the sudden rise.
We had well over 15000 tonight and last night
